CDS is a UPSC graduate-level route into IMA, INA, AFA and OTA, depending on academy eligibility. AFCAT is an Indian Air Force graduate / postgraduate entry route for Flying and Ground Duty branches as notified by the IAF. The right route depends on age, education, service goal, gender / commission conditions in the current notice and the training entry you are eligible for.

Decision guide

Decision guide

  • Still in / around Class 12 and within the NDA notice-specific DOB window: verify NDA first.
  • Graduate or final-year graduate: verify CDS academy eligibility.
  • Specifically targeting Indian Air Force officer branches after graduation: verify AFCAT and branch-specific qualifications.
  • Never choose only by perceived difficulty or coaching claims. Choose by official eligibility and desired service / commission pathway.
