NDA English Comprehension for GAT

Prepare GAT comprehension and cohesion with an evidence-safe reading method.

In short

UPSC expressly includes comprehension and cohesion in extended text in Part A English. This page trains a two-pass reading method and answer discipline based only on the passage.

Reading method

First pass

Identify:

  • central idea;
  • paragraph purpose;
  • tone only where supported by wording;
  • relationship among paragraphs.

Second pass

Locate evidence for:

  • stated facts;
  • inference that follows directly from the passage;
  • meaning of a word from context;
  • reference words and logical connectors.

Answer discipline

Choose the option best supported by the text. Avoid outside knowledge when the question is passage-based.

Cohesion

Train recognition of:

  • pronoun reference;
  • logical connectors;
  • sequence;
  • contrast;
  • cause and effect;
  • sentence-to-sentence continuity.

Boundary

No structure claims

Fixed passage length, number of passages or question frequency are not claimed without reviewed paper-level evidence.
