In short

The NDA General Ability Test carries 600 marks. Part A is English for 200 marks. Part B is General Knowledge for 400 marks and covers Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History / Freedom Movement and related social studies, Geography and Current Events.

Part A: English

Part A: English

Official scope is designed to test understanding of English and the workmanlike use of words:

  • grammar and usage;
  • vocabulary;
  • comprehension;
  • cohesion in extended text.

Do not inflate this official wording into an invented list of guaranteed question types.

Part B: General Knowledge

Physics

Physical properties and states of matter; mass, weight, volume, density and specific gravity; Archimedes principle; pressure and barometer; motion, velocity, acceleration, Newton's laws, force, momentum, gravitation; work, power and energy; heat; sound; light; electricity; magnetism; simple principles of instruments and everyday applications.

Chemistry

Physical and chemical changes; elements, mixtures and compounds; symbols, formulae and simple equations; law of chemical combination at elementary level; air and water; common gases; oxidation and reduction; acids, bases and salts; carbon and forms; fertilisers; common industrial materials; elementary atomic structure, weights and valency.

General Science

Living and non-living distinctions; cells, protoplasm and tissues; growth and reproduction; elementary human body and organs; common epidemics and prevention; food and nutrition; solar system, meteors, comets and eclipses; achievements of eminent scientists.

Geography

Earth shape and size; latitude / longitude; time and date line; earth movements; rocks, weathering, earthquakes, volcanoes; oceans, tides and currents; atmosphere, weather and climate; natural regions; Indian regional geography, resources, agriculture, industry, transport routes, ports and trade.

Current Events

Important recent events in India; current important world events; prominent Indian and international personalities, including cultural and sports fields.
