NDA preparation roadmap: build a plan from the official syllabus, PYQs and your own error log

Create a syllabus checklist directly from the current UPSC notification.

For each topic mark:

• Not learned
• Learned but unstable
• Can solve untimed
• Can solve under time pressure

Do not add invented chapter weightage. The syllabus tells you scope; PYQs tell you how the official paper has asked within that scope historically.

For Mathematics:

• rebuild weak concepts before chasing speed;
• show full working when diagnosing errors;
• keep formulas connected to the conditions in which they apply.

For GAT:

• separate English from General Knowledge/Science preparation;
• use the official syllabus boundaries;
• avoid replacing concept study with endless current-affairs consumption.

For English:

• practise grammar, vocabulary and comprehension in context;
• keep an error list of patterns you repeatedly miss.

The UPSC previous-question-paper repository should be the preferred paper source.

After a paper or section, do not record only the score. Classify each lost mark:

• concept gap;
• recall gap;
• calculation error;
• reading error;
• time-management error;
• avoidable guess;
• question-selection error.

This manual error log is a Rank Sarthi preparation framework, not an official UPSC scoring system.

Once basic coverage is stable:

• mix topics so retrieval is less predictable;
• practise switching between easy and difficult questions;
• set time limits only after you can solve the underlying material;
• review skipped questions as carefully as wrong ones.

A strong paper-review question is: What will I do differently on the next attempt?

Use full papers to practise:

• section pacing;
• decision-making under negative marking;
• leaving low-confidence questions;
• maintaining accuracy late in the paper.

Revision should be driven by evidence from your error log, not by the desire to "finish everything again."

NDA selection continues beyond the written paper. As the exam approaches, keep a light transition plan for:

• understanding the SSB process;
• keeping personal records and documents organised;
• maintaining general physical conditioning;
• reading official medical/physical standards without self-diagnosing.

Do not stop written preparation to rehearse scripted SSB answers.

At the end of a study cycle, ask:

• Which syllabus areas moved from weak to usable?
• Which error type repeated most?
• Which subject received too little attention?
• Which revision produced a measurable improvement in accuracy?
• What is the smallest high-value change for the next cycle?
